Solar Power

Solar Power

Sun Engineering’s solar power experience began more than 20 years ago when we designed a small onsite power system that included photovoltaic (PV) panels, a wind turbine and a battery system to power a remote telecommunication station and an isolation valve for a crude pipeline in Alaska. Since then, along with advancements in PV, we have developed the knowledge base necessary to support the development of larger PV facilities.

We have provided engineering design for solar power generation projects up to 3MW. Our experience includes complete engineering design of the electrical power systems from the solar panels to inverters, switchgear, transformers and tie-in with an existing 4160- volt facilities power grid.

We also designed a large number of smaller PV power systems in remote areas in California to monitor and operate remote isolation valves (SCADA) on oil and gas pipelines.

Biofuels Manufacturing Plant and Terminal

Biofuels Manufacturing Plant and Terminal

Sun Engineering has developed the preliminary engineering design package and project total cost estimate for a grass roots biofuels manufacturing facility. The liquid bulk terminal will provide receiving, delivery and storage tank facilities to accommodate the requirements of the biofuels manufacturing plant and other business ventures. The terminal will receive liquid feed stocks by barge, railcar and tanker truck and will transfer feedstock to and receive products from the production facility. A pipeline approximately 1,500-feet-long will be required for product transfer to and from the wharf with finished liquid products shipped by barge, railcar and tanker truck.

Biodiesel Storage, Blending and Distribution

Biodiesel Storage, Blending and Distribution

Our biodiesel project experience includes:

        • Feasibility studies, process design, front end engineering design (FEED) and cost estimates
        • Detailed engineering design, procurement, permitting, construction & start-up engineering assistance

We have experience with the following main systems:

        • Biodiesel B100 off-loading from railcars, trucks or ships and metering facilities
        • Biodiesel B100 storage, heating and loading facilities
        • Biodiesel blending (B5-B20) and truck loading facilities

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fuel Stations

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fuel Stations

Our CNG experience includes designing time-fill stations and fast-fill transit facilities. Our scope of work includes equipment sizing/selection and preparation of the permit and construction engineering/design drawing package. The typical CNG station includes the compressor, storage cylinders, dryers, control equipment, electrical service, piping and conduit runs from the equipment to dispensers. Most of our projects are grass roots facilities that require city planning department approval, including design layout of the new site, new driveways, traffic engineering, and  new landscaping in redevelopment areas.
